Scope and Eligibility
The International Journal of Health Research considers original, unpublished manuscripts that are not under consideration elsewhere. Submissions must fit one of the journal's sections: Original Research Articles, Review Articles, or Brief Reports and Case Reports. Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English.
Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. Authors must register an account, select the appropriate section, and complete all required metadata fields (title, abstract, keywords, and a full list of contributors with affiliations and emails). One author must be designated as the corresponding author.
Manuscript Preparation
- Format: Submit in Microsoft Word (.docx) format, double-spaced, 12-point font, with numbered pages and line numbers.
- Anonymization: Because the journal uses double-blind review, the main manuscript file must not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or identifying information. Provide these in a separate title page file.
- Title page: Include the full title, author names and affiliations, ORCID iDs, corresponding author details, funding sources, and a word count.
- Abstract: A structured abstract of up to 300 words (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions) is required for Original Research Articles and Review Articles. Brief Reports and Case Reports require an unstructured abstract of up to 150 words.
- Keywords: Provide 4-6 keywords, preferably drawn from Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
- Word limits: Original Research Articles 3,500-6,000 words; Review Articles 4,000-7,000 words; Brief Reports and Case Reports 1,500-2,500 words. Limits exclude the abstract, references, tables, and figures.
- Tables and figures: Place each on a separate page at the end of the manuscript, numbered consecutively, with a descriptive title and legend. Submit figures as high-resolution files (300 dpi minimum).
- References: Use the Vancouver numbered style, with references numbered in order of first citation. Include DOIs where available.
Reporting Guidelines
Authors must follow the reporting guideline appropriate to their study design and submit the completed checklist with the manuscript:
- Randomized trials: CONSORT
- Observational studies: STROBE
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses: PRISMA
- Qualitative studies: COREQ or SRQR
- Case reports: CARE
- Diagnostic accuracy studies: STARD
Ethics and Consent
- Studies involving human participants must state that they received approval from an institutional review board or ethics committee, including the approval reference number, and that they were conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
- Written informed consent must be obtained from participants. Case reports require documented consent from the patient for publication.
- Clinical trials must be registered in a public registry before participant enrollment, and the registration number must appear in the abstract.
- Studies involving animals must include a statement of approval from an animal ethics committee.
Authorship
Authorship must follow the ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution to the work, drafting or critical revision, final approval, and accountability for the work. Contributors who do not meet these criteria should be listed in the acknowledgements. Authors must include a statement describing each author's contribution. Changes to the author list after submission require written agreement from all authors.
Conflicts of Interest and Funding
All authors must disclose financial and non-financial conflicts of interest, and all funding sources must be declared in the manuscript. Funders' role in the study design, analysis, writing, or decision to publish must be stated.
Data Availability
Authors must include a data availability statement. Where possible, the journal encourages deposit of data in a public repository. Where data cannot be shared, the reasons must be stated.
Use of AI Tools
AI tools may not be listed as authors. Any use of AI tools in writing or analysis must be disclosed in the methods or acknowledgements, and authors remain fully responsible for the content.
Plagiarism and Research Integrity
All submissions are screened for similarity using plagiarism detection software. Duplicate submission, data fabrication or falsification, and plagiarism are grounds for rejection or retraction. The journal follows COPE guidelines.
Peer Review and Revision
Manuscripts are first screened by the editorial office, then sent for double-blind review. Authors receive a first decision within approximately six to eight weeks. Revised manuscripts must be returned within 30 days and include a point-by-point response to reviewers.
Article Processing Charge and Copyright
Accepted articles are published open access under a CC BY 4.0 license, and authors retain copyright. An article processing charge applies, with waivers available for authors from low- and middle-income countries.
Proofs and Publication
Authors will receive galley proofs as PDF and HTML and must return corrections within 72 hours. Accepted articles are published online first and assigned a DOI.

- Peer Review: Double-blind, minimum two reviewers
- Indexed: Yes
- Open Submissions: Yes
Brief Reports and Case Reports
Section Policy: This section publishes short, focused contributions, including preliminary findings, pilot studies, brief evaluations of health programs, and clinically instructive case reports. Case reports must include documented informed consent from the patient and must follow the CARE guidelines. Submissions should be concise and make a clear point, typically 1,500-2,500 words with no more than two tables or figures.
- Peer Review: Double-blind, minimum one reviewer (a second reviewer may be added at editorial discretion)
- Indexed: Yes
- Open Submissions: Yes
