Peer Review Process

All research articles submitted to JACVS undergo an initial editorial assessment. At this stage, the editors evaluate each submission’s relevance to the journal’s scope, scholarly quality, originality, methodological soundness, compliance with ethical principles, and adherence to the author guidelines. Submissions that do not meet the journal’s basic requirements may be declined without external review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are evaluated through a double-anonymized peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed. Each manuscript is normally reviewed by at least two independent experts with relevant subject knowledge.

Following peer review, the editorial decision may be:

Accept the submission.
Accept subject to minor revisions.
Invite major revisions and further evaluation.
Decline the submission.

Authors must respond to reviewers’ comments and clearly document the revisions made. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers when additional evaluation is required. The final publication decision rests with the responsible editor, who considers the reviewers’ reports, the authors’ responses, and the journal’s editorial standards.

Editors and editorial board members are not involved in decisions concerning submissions for which they have a personal, professional, or financial conflict of interest. Submissions authored by members of the journal’s editorial team are handled independently and undergo the same peer-review standards as other manuscripts.
